Publishing Tools

The Scholarly Publishing Office is in the process of developing or acquiring a number of software tools to support the publication process that it will make available to its publishing partners.

Larger: Journal Management System

Submission mechanisms for queuing for online publication: The SPO Journal Management System allows journal editors to submit articles, and their associated bibliographic data, for online publication. The Journal Management System is a fast and easy way for editors to communicate with SPO and to ensure speedy publication of articles. Articles can be submitted and displayed in a variety of formats and, once published, are fully searchable.

Issue building tools: The next phase of development of the Journal Management System will be the development of a set of Web tools that allow editors to create and manage a set of articles so that they appear in the context of an issue. These tools will support arranging the articles in a table of contents and simultaneous publication of any or all articles that have been stored in the system.

Support for peer review and authorial submission: SPO also plans on providing Web-based support for authors to submit articles to editors for consideration, and for editors to manage the peer review process. At this time, SPO is conducting a needs analysis, along with a survey of a variety of commercial and not-for-profit products to better understand editorial needs in this regard and how best to meet those needs.
