SPO Conversion Services

SPO offers services to help publishers convert original materials to a variety of digital formats. SPO staff can help transform electronic texts from their native formats to XML files that can serve a wide variety of publishing needs. This service can be provided for a fee or gratis -- as SPO's contribution to its publishing partnerships -- depending on the nature of the project. In addition SPO can help with other kinds of conversion. SPO itself does not provide digitization services but works closely with the digitization services of the University of Michigan Library's Digital Library Production Service. SPO can serve as a liaison to these services, consulting on the most appropriate conversion methods, costs, and scheduling. DLPS offers the following digitization services:

  • Black & white (bitonal) and grayscale scanning
  • Photographic and Digital Imaging
  • Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
  • Text encoding
  • Mono/stereo audio conversion

More detail about these services can be found in the DLPS Digitization Services brochure.
