Access Management
The Scholarly Publishing Office supports both free and subscriber-based distribution of electronic publications. SPO recognizes that publishers have a variety of models for controlling access to their publications. SPO uses the University of Michigan Library authentication and authorization mechanisms, developed and maintained by the Digital Library Production Service, to support these models and to meet the needs of SPO's publishing partners.
Access by IP Address:
Access to SPO publications can be limited to subscriber institutions by IP address. Subscription managers simply provide SPO with a list of authorized IP addresses, and only those addresses are permitted to view the publication.
Individual user accounts: SPO also provides mechanisms for establishing individual user accounts. Publishers manage their subscriptions and provide SPO with information about authorized users. When users access the publication for the first time, they are prompted to set up passwords for future use.
Administrative tools: Subscription managers can set up and update user accounts and permissions through an easy-to-use Web based administrative interface.
